Sam Jones

American trumpeter Sam Jones has been praised by The New York Times for his “remarkable playing” and “riveting dialogue.” Winner of the 2019 “World Trumpet Society” International Competition, Jones works with a wide range of artists from Elliott Carter, Liza Lim, and Peter Maxwell Davies to William Kentridge, Ornette Coleman, and La Monte Young. In addition to being a member of the Talea Ensemble and Ensemble Échappé, he has also performed as a soloist and guest musician with many groups including the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Jones has premiered and recorded several works with Charles Wuorinen and The Group For Contemporary Music. He appears on albums with Alarm Will Sound, International Contemporary Ensemble, the Talea Ensemble, Charles Wuorinen, Louis Karchin, the Kyle Athayde Dance Party, TILT Brass, Wang Lu, Nina C. Young, Zosha Di Castri, and the Ensemble Échappé. Jones is a graduate of The Juilliard School, where he earned a fellowship at the Future Music Lab and collaborated with IRCAM, the world’s leading electronic music institution based in Paris.
