Rory McCleery is an award-winning Scottish conductor, countertenor, and musicologist. Internationally renowned for his compelling interpretations across a wide range of repertoire, he is particularly associated with the choral music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. He is also increasingly recognized for his affinity with contemporary British composers. McCleery has performed at prestigious venues, including Wigmore Hall and the BBC Proms, and has directed choirs, masterclasses, study days, and workshops in the U.S., Spain, Germany, France, and Italy. He appears regularly on radio and television, most recently on the BBC Two series Art That Made Us.
McCleery is the founder and artistic director of The Marian Consort, with whom he performs internationally, including a recently televised tour of Japan. His extensive discography with The Marian Consort, on Delphian and Linn Records, includes numerous first recordings of both new and historic music, which have earned a variety of accolades, including the Diapason d'Or, Presto Classical Album of the Year, and the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik.
In addition to his work as a conductor and researcher, McCleery remains active
as a countertenor, performing as a soloist with ensembles such as the Dunedin Consort, English Consort, and Ensemble 1604. He is also the artistic co-director of the Dunster Festival, which runs an ongoing program of community engagement and music education.
